Overview
POS Stream is a point of sale built for the shop that cannot afford to stop selling. Load-shedding, a dead router, a mobile signal that comes and goes — none of it reaches the counter, because the app keeps every product, price, customer and sale on the device itself.
It is deliberately small. Four screens do the work: Sales, Inventory, Customers and Reports. There is no dashboard to learn and no module you will never open. Most shopkeepers are selling within the first hour.
One product, tuned to your trade
A general store and a pharmacy do not need the same fields. Instead of one bloated form, POS Stream applies a business profile at installation and shows only what that trade uses.
- General Store — unit and weight items, fast checkout, no expiry tracking to slow you down.
- Grocery Store — PLU codes, bulk and weight selling, expiry date tracking.
- Medical Store — batch numbers and expiry dates mandatory, controlled-item flags.
Coming in v2.0: Bakery (production batches, daily perishables, short shelf-life), Gift Centre (bundling, gift-wrap SKUs, occasion tagging) and Book Store (ISBN, publisher, author, genre).
The profile system is extensible — a new business type can be added as its own module without touching the core product, so a trade we have not covered can still be supported.
Inside the app
Sales. Product grid with category filter chips, search by name or barcode (phone camera or USB scanner), tap a tile to add to the cart. Adjust quantity, remove lines, apply per-item or order-level discounts as a percentage or fixed amount. Take cash with a keypad that calculates change, a card, or charge it to the customer's credit account. Print the receipt over Bluetooth or send it by SMS. Void a sale with confirmation. A dot in the top bar shows sync state at all times — green for synced, amber for pending.
Inventory. Product list with a stock-level bar and colour-coded status, plus summary cards for total SKUs, low stock, out of stock and total stock value. Add, edit and remove products, receive stock, write off damage and make manual corrections. Low-stock thresholds are set per product, and profile-specific fields appear only where they apply.
Customers. Customer list with outstanding credit highlighted, searchable by name or phone. Each customer shows total orders, lifetime spend, outstanding balance and their last 20 purchases. Add credit, collect payment, view the ledger — and confirm collection by SMS.
Reports. Choose today, this week, this month or a custom range. Total sales, transaction count, average basket and the cash-versus-credit split, with hourly or daily bar charts, top sellers by quantity and revenue, and a low-stock alert list. Export to PDF for yourself or CSV for your accountant — generated from local data, no internet required.
Settings. Store name and contact details, receipt footer and print-or-SMS default, low-stock default, currency (Rs by default), backup schedule with manual trigger, and optional server details for background sync.
What POS Stream is not
Being clear about the boundaries saves everyone time:
- It is not a cloud web app — it installs and runs on your device.
- It does not depend on the internet for day-to-day operation.
- It is not a full ERP. Accounting-system sync is optional and runs quietly in the background.
- It is not multi-branch in v1.0 — one installation runs one store. If you need several branches reporting to a head office, talk to us about what fits.
Optional background sync
If you already run an accounting or ERP system, POS Stream can sync to it in the background over Apache OFBiz — without ever making your till wait for the network. If you do not, ignore it entirely: the app is complete on its own, and CSV export covers handing figures to an accountant.
Common questions
What happens when the internet goes down? Nothing. Sales, inventory, customers and reports all work from the local database. Sync catches up on its own when a connection returns.
Can I use my phone as the till? Yes — the same app runs on Android phones and tablets, iOS, and desktop computers, and the phone camera works as the barcode scanner.
Do I need a special printer? A Bluetooth receipt printer works out of the box, and you can send receipts by SMS instead.
Can I sell on credit to regular customers? Yes. Credit sales draw on a customer account with a full ledger, and you can record collections and confirm them by SMS.
My shop is a bakery / gift centre / book store. Those profiles are planned for v2.0, and custom profiles can be built for trades we have not covered. Message us and we will tell you honestly where it stands.
